We are in search of a Senior Database Administrator, with some Data Engineering skills, to strengthen our Infrastructure team. This pivotal role involves managing around 500 SQL Server database instances (as a team), hosting several terabytes of data. The position also requires contributing to the development and enhancement of in-house tooling and database administration-related code.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with substantial database administration experience, particularly in high-volume, data-intensive environments, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Azure.

 

Responsibilities:

- Oversee the administration of SQL Server instances

- Develop and maintain T-SQL scripts for effective database management

- Utilize Powershell and Python for daily database operations

- Collaborate in the development and improvement of in-house DBA related tools

- Facilitate the migration of existing infrastructure to cloud-based solutions, particularly Microsoft Azure

- Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize system performance, capacity, reliability, and scalability

- Formulate and implement backup, recovery, and archiving strategies

- Monitor database performance, promptly identify, and rectify any issues

- Initiate and spearhead all SQL and NoSQL-related projects

- Manage SQL Server and ElasticSearch servers and instances

- Define, implement and automate technical standards for servers, instances, and databases

- Implement measures to boost quality and productivity after performance and resources monitoring

- Document database architecture

- Provide technical support for infrastructure and business application incidents

- Improve query performance through tuning, managing statistics, indexes, and partitioning

- Collaborate with the development team on data modeling

 

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, ideally in a high-volume, data-intensive setting

- Proficient in SQL Server instance administration

- Experience in writing T-SQL scripts

- Solid expertise in Powershell and Python scripting languages

- Familiarity with cloud technologies, specifically Microsoft Azure

- Proven track record in developing in-house tools and DBA related code

- Comprehensive understanding of database structures, principles, theories, and practices

- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments

- Excellent communication skills in English

- Prior experience in data engineering in Azure is highly desirable

 

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Azure Databricks would be a significant plus
